A-Z Regulations & VISA

Au Pair

An au pair is a girl or boy between 17 and 30 years who becomes a temporary member of a family. Young people are taking the opportunity to improve their language skills and get acquainted with a new culture.
In exchange for free board and lodge, a private room and pocket money, the au pair will take care of your children and (sometimes) help with light housework .

Travel costs

Travel costs are usually negotiable. If the au pair does not come through an agency, families and aupairs often split the cost of a roundtrip ticket. However, families' feedback is that this option does not always have a positive outcome as au pairs sometimes cancel their contract after the family has paid for the ticket. The family then loses the money they paid for the ticket. Families may also agree to refund the airfare in full or in part, once the au pair has started working or once the contract has been completed.

Pocket money

We should remember that the pocket money that an au pair receives will differ per country, region and - in some countries - by number of working hours and work experience.
